The Lasker Lecture Series

The Lasker Lectures explore fundamental scientific questions and elucidate topics of pressing interest in medical research and clinical practice. Through its lecture series, the Lasker Foundation hopes to advance a public dialogue about the ways in which scientific questions are pursued, to boost public understanding of the importance of biomedical research, and to generate excitement about the challenges and promise of biomedical science.

The 2011 Lasker Lecture, "Induction of Pluripotency by Defined Factors," was delivered by Shinya Yamanaka to a packed auditorium at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine on October 24, 2011. Dr. Yamanaka provided a personal perspective on his revolutionary work to uncover the factors that induce somatic cells into becoming pluripotent stem cells. Following Dr. Yamanaka, Paul Frennette discussed his research in a talk entitled "Neural Control of Stem Cell and Cancer Microenvironments."
