Drawing on lessons learned from pandemics such as Ebola, Zika, and HIV/AIDS, Lasker President Claire Pomeroy urges sustained, proactive investment in vaccine research to prepare us for future outbreaks and allow us to respond effectively to new infectious diseases. Pomeroy writes in her CNBC op-ed:

Formulating solutions in the heat of a health crisis, is dangerously inadequate; reacting to each outbreak instead of consistently funding research means that we will always be behind, never ahead of the crisis.
