Albert Lasker
Basic Medical Research Award

Acceptance Remarks by Ernest McCulloch

Ernest McCulloch

Dr. Till and I are honored to receive the Lasker Award. The honor serves to bring back happy memories of the 1960–70 decade when most of our stem cell work was done. We have also had the pleasure of watching development in the field of experimental hematology. Science is international. In laboratories throughout the world, blood formation and the stem cells of other tissues are major research topics. The breadth of the effort insures the validity of findings. The work of many helps society to decide when it is appropriate to apply new knowledge in the clinical setting. We are fortunate to live long enough to enjoy the growing stem cell field and to anticipate, with hope, that its application to man will be helpful. The honor of the Lasker Award provides assurance that our contribution to the field was important.
