Awards Program Endowment

To appropriately honor and effectively showcase transformative discoveries, the Foundation will significantly increase the size of the Award's honorarium, with the goal of achieving a $1 million prize for each Lasker awardee. The Board of the Lasker Foundation is committed to securing pledges of $75 million by no later than 2010. Increasing the endowment from $25 million to $100 million will enable the Foundation to enhance its role in medical science domestically and in the international community. Of the $75 million to be raised, $20 million has already been donated by individuals who have embraced the opportunity to join with the Lasker Foundation to strengthen and secure the promises of medical research.

Michael E. DeBakey, M.D., former Chairman of the Lasker Jury and the 1963 Lasker Clinical Research Award winner, and Daniel E. Koshland, Jr., Ph.D., Chairman of the Public Service Award Selection Committee and 1998 Lasker Special Achievement in Medical Science awardee, have led the way to increasing the endowment. Each has contributed $10 million to bring us to nearly 30 percent of our goal.
